About The Position

The Systems Engineer is a key member of a 24/7 mission critical operations team and is responsible for support of Wind Plant control systems for a ~6,000MW renewable generation portfolio. The Systems Engineer will have extensive working and institutional knowledge and understanding of complex control systems applications as they relate to the operation of diversely located and centrally operated generation assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • As is relates to the job description, 3+ years# experience in or around power plant and or Substation SCADA systems (the company may consider candidates with less experience at a lower level).
  • Experience planning, designing, managing, and configuring hardware/operating systems.
  • High energy, ability to work with little supervision, self motivated and desire to stay abreast of latest systems technologies relating to optimizing generation system performance.
  • Ability to qualify to NERC standards including successful 7 year background investigation and security review.
  • Strong Commitment to personnel safety.
  • Travel approximately 30-40% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience planning, designing, managing, and configuring applications such as PC Vue, VisuPro, Matrikon, SGipe, SC Commander, and other generation related SCADA applications.
  • 3+ years of experience managing and configuring communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP, OPC, TCP/IP.
  • Understanding of NERC / CIP standards.
  • Experience with generation control related data centers or SCADA systems.
  • Experienced in fiber termination, splicing, and OTDR.
  • Fiber training and certifications preferred.
  • Experience with complex substation systems utilizing Schweitzer SEL products.
  • Experience with VMWare.
  • Experience with OPC industrial communications.
  • Ability to navigate and succeed in a highly matrixed reporting structure, preferably at an international company.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated performance leading initiatives and building consensus at all levels of a matrixed global organization with minimal supervision.
  • Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills with the ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing business environment with typically tight schedules and demanding targets.
  • Ability to foster and participate in a productive team environment by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Effectively provides and receives information orally in individual and group situations.
  • Written expression is clear, concise, and conveys the desired message.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and engineering support to ensure the reliable operation of Avangrid's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems.
  • Work closely with the Network Engineering and Software Engineering teams to evaluate and provide feedback on network provisioning, monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Integrate, test and manage telecom equipment including firewalls, switches, and routers.
  • Design, test, document, update, and configure system hardware, communications, telemetry, and operating system software to optimize generation systems control and monitoring applications specific to project design and operating requirements.
  • With support, deploy, install, configure, generation system related facilities, servers, network, and telecommunication equipment in concert with new and existing development pipelines and timelines.
  • Configure, test, and monitor protocols such as Modbus, DNP, OPC, TCP/IP.
  • The ability to be on-call and respond to issues after normal working hours.
