About The Position

SC2 Therapist (SC2T) (Full-time, 40 hours) Exempt BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. Since 1969, BUILD has worked to save lives and mentor young people who live in the city’s most challenged neighborhoods. Our Core Values : Empathy, Passion, Persistence and Innovation The SC2 Therapist provides immediate support to community members impacted by violence. This role includes delivering individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and ongoing support to address behavioral and mental health needs. Services are provided in targeted communities and hospitals as needed. The SC2 Therapist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care. The SC2 Therapist reports to the Manager of Community Mental Health Services (MCMHS).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
  • Working towards or holding licensure (LCSW/LCPC) is required.
  • Experience providing therapy to individuals and families impacted by trauma, violence, or crisis.
  • Operate professionally in the field on a flexible time schedule, which includes late evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency with technology (Microsoft Office), tech integration into daily program operations and evaluation systems.
  • Must possess solid understanding of data collection and program evaluation
  • Ability to work collaboratively in community-based and hospital settings.
  • Flexible schedule, with some evening or weekend availability as needed.
  • Self-motivated leader with the ability to communicate in a friendly and informative manner with people from a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • As of October 15, 2021, all BUILD employees are required to submit proof of full vaccination status.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group therapy to community members affected by violence or other community-related stressors.
  • Deliver crisis intervention and short-term stabilization services in community and hospital settings.
  • Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and maintain clinical documentation in accordance with agency and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with community partners, hospitals, and internal staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in outreach efforts to engage high-risk individuals and families in services.
  • Support case consultation and contribute to best practices in trauma-informed care.
  • Attend supervision, training, and professional development sessions as assigned.
  • Makes referrals in accordance with service plans to other organization units and external providers.
  • Provide case management and connection to internal and external services.
  • Assists members of the Intervention Team during crisis situations involving youth.
  • Document and report program activities and outcomes and ensure progress toward annual program objectives.
  • Maintains knowledge current in the field including, but not limited to, attendance at seminars, workshops, etc.
