About The Position

Provides trauma-informed and culturally responsive advocacy and supportive services to survivors throughout the criminal justice system and provides specialized support to survivors involved in the Domestic Violence Intervention Court (DVIC).

Requirements

  • Degree in social work, criminal justice or related field preferred. At least one year experience in justice system setting or related field.
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with diverse populations. Ability to model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, management of conflicts and work in team structure.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential services to survivors and individuals associated with Domestic Violence Intervention Court including, but not limited to: needs assessments, court orientation, advocacy support, crisis intervention, community referrals, danger assessment, safety planning, and follow-up support beyond the criminal case.
  • Assist survivors in filing police reports, protection orders, divorce filing, Victims of Crime Compensation, VINElink and ODRC registration.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and maintains current data for statistics on survivor engagement.
  • Utilizes crisis intervention best practices including safety planning, trauma-informed care, and listening skills to provide compassionate support to all survivors and co-survivors.
  • Attend all DVIC treatment team meetings, DVIC court sessions, as well as any other additional meetings or hearings to provide advocacy for survivors; provides follow-up with survivors regarding hearing outcomes.
  • Assists in on-call rotation when requested by supervisor to provide crisis intervention and accompaniment to survivors in the hospital and other community based settings
  • Facilitate training opportunities to law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community regarding current domestic violence laws and legislation to ensure a strong coordinated response and support network for survivors.
  • Adheres to Service Excellence standards at all times.
  • Represent Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center by participating in community activities, coalitions and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by supervisor.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, CARF standards and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
