About The Position

Operates saw equipment to cut grating panels to job-specific dimensions and tolerances. Supports material staging, equipment setup, and process monitoring to maintain quality, safety, and production rate expectations. SUMMARY: The Saw Operator 1 is responsible for operating saw equipment to cut grating products according to production specifications. Core responsibilities include material staging, alignment, clamping, lubrication management, and accurate cutting to job orders. The operator must follow safety procedures, monitor cut quality, and perform routine checks and maintenance, including blade changes and coolant refill. Success in this role requires the ability to interpret job travelers, manage cut schedules efficiently, and contribute to a clean and organized work area. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must have the ability to read and interpret job travelers, instructions, and measurement tools such as tape measures and scales.
  • Basic math skills, including working with fractions and unit conversions, are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with overhead cranes, hand tools, and ERP systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate saw equipment to cut grating panels to precise job specifications while maintaining quality and production standards.
  • Use overhead cranes to stage, load, and unload material to and from the saw and roller beds.
  • Secure panels using hydraulic, pneumatic, or manual clamps and verify saw blade path before cutting.
  • Monitor and adjust cutting parameters, including blade speed and fall rate, based on material type and thickness.
  • Mark, label, and stage completed cuts as required by job order.
  • Perform daily logging in ERP (Epicor) system to record material use and job completion.
  • Inspect material for visual defects and correct placement before and after cutting.
  • Maintain clean work area, including removal of scrap and safe storage of finished goods.
  • Check and refill lubricant system as needed for saw blade lubrication.
  • Change saw blades as part of regular maintenance schedule or when performance degrades.
  • Perform pre-shift checks on clamps, blade travel, and hydraulic functions for safe operation.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including use of PPE, E-stops, and lockout/tagout processes.
