At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. We are seeking an experienced Satellite Structures and Configuration Engineer to join our innovative spacecraft development team. In this role, you will be responsible for the structural design, analysis, and configuration of satellite systems, ensuring optimal mass efficiency while maintaining structural integrity. The ideal candidate will contribute to mission success by developing robust structural solutions that meet mission requirements while optimizing mass, volume, and performance parameters.

  • Lead structural design and configuration activities for satellite systems, including primary and secondary structures
  • Perform detailed mass optimization studies to ensure spacecraft meets mission requirements while maximizing payload capacity
  • Develop and maintain packaging strategies for satellite components, ensuring efficient use of available volume
  • Conduct comprehensive stress and modal analyses to validate structural designs under various loading conditions
  • Design and analyze composite structures, leveraging advanced materials to achieve weight savings
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, thermal, and propulsion teams to resolve integration challenges
  • Create and maintain detailed CAD models and engineering documentation for structural systems
  • B .S. degree in Aerospace , Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field
  • 5 + years of experience in spacecraft or aerospace structural design
  • Proficiency in structural analysis tools (e.g., NASTRAN, ANSYS, or similar)
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, or NX)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structural design principles, material properties, and manufacturing processes
  • Strong understanding of composite materials and their application in space structures
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • M .S. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience with spacecraft structural design and analysis
  • Experience with orbital mechanics and mission planning
  • Knowledge of space environment effects on materials and structures
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and spacecraft subsystem interfaces
  • Experience with model correlation and hardware testing
  • Background in vibration isolation systems and deployment mechanisms
  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
