About The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced SAP Transportation Management (TM) Functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support efforts for a large-scale Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS) implementation. This role sits at the core of transforming complex, legacy transportation and logistics operations into modern, integrated SAP-enabled processes. You will work directly with government stakeholders, functional leads, and technical teams to analyze current-state operations, design optimized future-state processes, and ensure successful alignment with SAP TM capabilities. This is a high-impact role requiring deep functional expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence enterprise-wide transformation initiatives within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Business, or related field
  • 8+ years of SAP functional experience, with deep specialization in SAP Transportation Management (TM)
  • Proven experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementations, preferably in large, complex environments
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end transportation and logistics operations
  • Ability to facilitate workshops, influence stakeholders, and drive consensus across diverse teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS) or similar large-scale logistics programs
  • Familiarity with integration across SAP modules such as EWM, SD, MM, and finance components

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the functional authority for SAP Transportation Management (TM), advising on system capabilities, standard functionality, and design trade-offs.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications and solution designs aligned with SAP S/4HANA architecture.
  • Guide configuration and design decisions across key TM components such as: Freight Order Management, Transportation Planning & Optimization, Carrier Selection & Tendering, Freight Settlement & Cost Distribution
  • Ensure alignment with integration points across SAP modules (e.g., EWM, MM, SD, GTS).
  • Partner with senior government and program leadership to shape transformation strategy and roadmap for transportation management capabilities.
  • Provide expert recommendations on process standardization, system utilization, and organizational change impacts.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, balancing mission requirements with technical feasibility and SAP best practices.
  • Lead the translation of operational needs into structured requirements, user stories, and functional design artifacts.
  • Evaluate gaps between legacy processes and SAP TM capabilities, recommending innovative and scalable solutions.
  • Ensure all designs support auditability, traceability, and compliance within a regulated DoD environment.
  • Define and support functional testing strategies, including system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Validate that configured solutions meet business requirements and operational scenarios.
  • Support deployment planning, cutover activities, and transition to operations.
  • Support organizational change efforts by helping stakeholders understand and adopt new transportation processes and system capabilities.
  • Contribute to training materials, user guidance, and process documentation.
  • Identify adoption risks and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure successful implementation.
  • Monitor post-implementation performance and identify opportunities to optimize transportation processes and system usage.
  • Recommend enhancements based on operational data, user feedback, and evolving mission needs.
