About The Position

The purpose of this position is to relocate trash and refuse to the landfill by way of the transfer station haul truck. This is accomplished operating the transfer station haul truck and other large sanitation vehicles, collecting trash and refuse and transporting it to the appropriate location, sweeping, cleaning and washing the load pit (tunnel), collecting trash and refuse that was accumulated in the trash carts and roll carts outside. Assisting in facility operations to include but not limited to grounds, buildings, vehicles, equipment maintenance or repairs, grinding (shredding) tires, inspecting incoming and in house loads, parking vehicles, and with other daily operations of the Transfer Station, and helping out Sanitation divisions and other City Departments. This is a working leader position.

  • Over one year and up to and including two years.
  • Requires High school graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college
  • Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculates ratios, rates and percentages.
  • Reads routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures, or work orders; writes routine sentences and completes routine job forms and incident reports; speaks routine sentences using proper grammar.

Involves operations of limited scope.
  • Works where exposure to bodily injury from electrical shock is a possibility such as operating high voltage equipment or repairing electrical generating equipment; or works in high, exposed places with risk of falling such as on power lines or scaffolding.
  • Responsible for safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  • Acts as a lead worker by providing routine information and training to workers. Sweeping, cleaning and washing load pit (tunnel) pick up and put trash and refuse that was cleaned up into trash carts and the roll cart outside.
  • Maintains and inspects trucks and equipment by reviewing condition prior to beginning routes, completing inspection reports, notifying supervision, re-inspection at the end of the route, cleaning, sanitizing, and reporting malfunctions and items needing repair.
  • Collects, moves or relocates trash and refuse by operating trucks and large vehicles, driving routes or at the landfill, and ensuring trash is collected regularly and is in its appropriate landfill location.
