About The Position

I. JOB PURPOSE Setup and operate all of the equipment used in the sanding department to machine materials per customer specifications. Handle in a specified manner to accommodate any cosmetic requirements to meet or exceed customer require specifications. Responsible for maintaining quality and safety standards, housekeeping, process integrity, monitoring of calibration of all measuring equipment used and monitoring machinery and tools to ensure safe correct and optimum performance, while maintaining professional conduct in the workplace. Train new associates as required. Cross train in Saws, Debur, Punch, Straightening, CNC and Drilling, which are part of the Machining dept. II. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Get job assignment and communicate with the previous operator briefly, before the beginning of the shift. Before starting the machine, perform a quick check to ensure that safe and correct operations of the machine is possible and setup sanding machine as required. Verify the paperwork, print number, revision levels, operation sequence, materials, program and check sheet are all correct and consistent. Select proper process to meet all cosmetic criteria, to meet or exceed customer specifications. To insure that the Parts are consistent with the print, run the first part and check it against the print. Have another associate check the part and sign off on the work order. Run jobs in an efficient, organized and safe manner, meeting or exceeding the hourly rate, while following the work instructions on the print and/or work order sequence. Must clock in and out of the work order and sequence. Maintain the work flow and perform quality audits as required to ensure that the product meets or exceeds the customer specifications. Make adjustments as required, with proper authorization. Change worn or broken belts or pads using appropriate procedures. Train new and other sanding associates in cosmetic processes and techniques as directed by Supervisor. Create processes that will produce parts to the customer specifications the first time through in the most efficient manner. Cross train in Saws, Debur, Punch, Straightening, CNC and Drilling, which are part of the Machining dept. III. Job Scope Job Complexity: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with a few concrete variables as well as concepts of what a customer is looking for in product finishes usually in standardized and controlled situations. Supervisory Responsibility: Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments. Assists with the activities of less-experienced associates. Utilizes the daily work center Work In Progress (WIP) report to set priorities. Contacts/Interaction: Frequently works with peers and occasionally interfaces with management as well as QC and Engineering. Decision Making : Has Key decision making responsibility. Failure to make accurate decisions will have a High impact on the department’s success, particularly with cosmetic parts and whether or not they will need to be reworked. Cosmetics are expensive as is the rework procedure. Has a wide variety of resources available from which to make decisions. IV. Job Qualifications 1. Educational Background (minimum level needed to perform) and/or Previous Work Experience (minimal level years and what kind) High School diploma or equivalent preferred, plus 1-2 years of manufacturing experience. 2. Special Skills and Abilities (computer, language, interpersonal skills, etc.) Must be able to read and comprehend written work instructions. Ability to provide input as the creation of new work instructions and processes for new products, particularly cosmetics. Basic understanding and comprehension of technical language tools and specifications Ability to read All blue prints. Ability to use measuring equipment including, but not limited to: dial and/or digital calipers, thread gages, profilometer.
