About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Manager, NV, the Sample Preparation Manager is responsible for overseeing the sample preparation team and coordinating the processing of customer samples while following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices. Working conditions include: sedentary work, as well as dusty and noisy work environment involving medium to heavy lifting (must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for 10 feet) and repetitive tasks. There may be some exposure to flammable material and moving mechanical parts

Responsibilities

  • Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Sample Preparation Manager position.
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE), while being a strong proponent for safety in the facility.
  • Responsible for employee management including interviewing, hiring, providing both technical and safety training, scheduling, conflict resolution, disciplinary action and termination of employees.
  • Carry out sample receiving and preparation procedures in accordance with documented SOP’s and other work instructions.
  • Maintenance of training matrix and records of all sample preparation employees
  • Manage the Sample Preparation operations and ensure peak efficiency by:
  • Evaluating staffing requirements to meet turnaround objectives; interview new employees as required, and provide disciplinary action as needed
  • Reviewing staff timesheets, vacations, and absences
  • Providing training and mentorship of new staff
  • Monitoring productivity and efficiency
  • Ordering supplies via Reno Purchasing personnel (or locally as required) and maintaining an inventory consistent with sample volumes
  • Conducting internal safety tool box and other meetings as needed
  • Liaising with the Quality department for client and internal investigations as needed
  • Liaising with external providers for facility controlled waste disposition as needed
  • Monitoring performance and maintenance of facility equipment
  • Practicing good housekeeping.
  • Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Operations Manager, NV.
  • Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the branch to the Operations Manager, NV.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
