Protecting People.” We are seeking a Sales Tax & Accounts Payable Analyst to partner with our experienced financial services team in this environmentally focused industry. A Sales Tax & Accounts Payable Analyst at Smith and Loveless provides accurate and timely processing of payables, including related record keeping, and handle all aspects of Sales Tax Processing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • 3-5 years of accounting or related experience.
  • Proficient with excel spreadsheets.
  • Good computer skills
  • 10 key by touch.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented.
  • Good numerical ability and high degree of accuracy.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Sales Tax and/or Accounts Payable experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enter payable invoices and credits accurately, for three companies. (S&L Lenexa, S&L Georgia and A&A Machining and Assembly) Analyze documents for approval, completeness and accuracy. Take initiative to apply appropriate measures when required to complete processing invoices.
  • A/P vendor communication (i.e. inquiries and problem resolution). Address and resolve issues relating to invoices, receivers, and supplier statements. This may require communication with Smith and Loveless purchasing department.
  • Set up new vendors in Kinetic and gather required backup, i.e. W-9, etc.
  • Maintain and balance all assigned A/P registers and general ledger accounts and make corresponding journal entries.
  • Backup the weekly processing of checks or electronic payments to vendors.
  • Work with Cost Accounting and the Purchasing department to resolve receiving problems with purchase orders.
  • Filing and mail responsibilities, as needed.
  • Compute, verify and file Sales/Use Tax Returns for all 50 states, plus counties and parishes, within strict state mandated deadlines, as required.
  • Reconcile and Balance Tax Accounts to Kinetic General Ledger.
  • Produce complete, accurate & timely entries and reconciliations as part of month-end close.
  • Work with the Credit Department on tax compliance issues, as needed.
  • Work with the Credit Department, the Parts Department and Application Engineers to ensure that the correct tax rates are in the customer master in Kinetic.
  • Enter tax exemption certificates into Kinetic ERP system.
  • Compile and organize information for sales tax audits & annual audits with our accounting firm, as needed.
  • Correspondence with states, including requesting refunds, as appropriate.
  • Resolution of discrepancies between states and S&L records.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller & CFO, such as annual reports.
  • Back up other general accounting functions as necessary.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
