The New Car Sales Manager leads the performance, profitability, and daily operations of the New Vehicle Sales Department. This role is responsible for driving unit sales, front-end gross, market share, and guest satisfaction while developing a high-performing and accountable sales team. The New Car Sales Manager partners with the General Sales Manager and executive leadership to execute sales strategy, optimize inventory, leverage digital retail tools, and ensure compliance with all dealership and manufacturer standards. Success in this role requires strong leadership, data-driven decision-making, and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences across both in-store and online sales channels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ automotive retail sales experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ automotive sales management experience required.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales volume, gross profit, and CSI goals.
  • Strong understanding of dealership financial statements and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of automotive finance, equity management, and depreciation.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms, dealership management systems (e.g., CDK), and manufacturer portals (e.g., Dealer Daily).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local automotive sales regulations.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Data-driven and results-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
  • High ethical standards and professional presence.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • California Occupational Sales License (if applicable by state law).

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and mentor Sales Consultants to achieve individual and team performance goals.
  • Establish clear KPIs including units, gross profit, appointment show rate, closing ratio, and CSI.
  • Conduct daily sales meetings, one-on-one coaching sessions, and structured weekly training.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and performance-driven culture.
  • Provide ongoing training in product knowledge, compliance, CRM usage, and digital retail processes.
  • Collaborate with the General Sales Manager to forecast and achieve monthly and annual sales objectives.
  • Monitor daily operating reports, gross profit, commissions, and inventory performance.
  • Assist in structuring and closing deals while protecting profitability and ensuring compliance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of sold units in CRM, DMS, and manufacturer systems.
  • Drive manufacturer objective attainment and incentive program performance.
  • Manage new vehicle inventory to maintain appropriate days’ supply and model mix.
  • Oversee dealer trades, ensuring proper documentation, payment processing, and vehicle exchanges.
  • Monitor aged inventory and implement strategies to improve turn rates.
  • Ensure showroom and lot merchandising standards are maintained, including digital listings.
  • Monitor internet lead response time, appointment scheduling, and follow-up processes.
  • Ensure sales team effectively utilizes CRM and digital retail tools.
  • Track and improve lead-to-sale conversion rates.
  • Partner with Marketing to align campaigns with inventory and sales goals.
  • Address escalated guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure adherence to dealership sales policies and legal compliance requirements.
  • Maintain high CSI scores and online reputation standards.
  • Oversee a transparent and ethical sales process.
  • Schedule and oversee Sales Consultants’ daily activities.
  • Coordinate vehicle deliveries to ensure a smooth and timely guest experience.
  • Prepare and analyze reports using CRM, DMS, manufacturer platforms, and Microsoft Office.
  • Support cross-departmental collaboration with F&I, Service, and Parts to improve overall guest retention.
