Sales Engineer supports the Sales Department and customers by identifying customer needs, and develops adaptations of products, equipment and services. Identify and close profitable sales opportunities. Initiate, build and maintain strategic relationships within VTX1’s target market of commercial customers. Ensure market profitability by providing expertise in the development of business solutions in the areas of Telecommunications, Phone Systems, fiber aid to construction (ATC), and the installation process of each. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Identifies current and future technical customer needs that will be used to develop technological solutions. Provides product, service, equipment, and technical information by answering questions and requests put forth by Sales staff, Customer Service, customers, and various VTX1 departments. Prepares cost estimates by using blueprints, plans, and related customer documents, consults with engineers, architects, and other professional and technical personnel. Determines improvements of equipment by analyzing cost-benefit ratios; supplies and services applications in customer environment; Proposes changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services. Along with the Sales Associate, gain customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating solutions. Works with Sales staff to submit orders after confirming with technical support staff, finance, and engineering. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipates future legislation; advises customer on products, services, and/or equipment adherence to requirements; advises customer on needed actions. Prepares sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information. Maintains professional, industry and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishes personal networks; participates in professional societies. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Participates in weekly Engineering meeting by providing and obtaining information on current and future projects. Must create Scopes of Work and be able to create Project Plans for use by Sales staff, various VTX1 departments, and customers. Sales Engineer will need to create various Profit and Loss sheets with supporting documentation. Attend site surveys and walkthroughs to obtain technical details required for project quotes. Provide training to hosted phone system customers. Complete hosted phone system questionnaires. Read RFPs and assist with technical responses. Create network diagrams when necessary. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (BBA/MBA preferred) or equivalent experience plus 3 or more years of Telecommunications experience. If the Sales Engineer has related experience and/or training; Having the equivalent combination of education and experience in the following areas is preferred: Fixed Wireless and other Telecommunications products such as DIA, FIA, PRI, SIP, T1, TDM, TLS, and MPLS. Telephone System design and sales. Network System design and sales. Must have a valid Driver’s License and insurable record. Must pass pre-employment screen, physical and background checks. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to work at multiple locations within the South Texas region. Strong personal and professional networking abilities. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Solid understanding of complete sales cycle management, from prospecting to closing. Ability to work as part of a team while demonstrating flexibility, reliability, and initiative. Knowledge of telecommunications technology, products and services. Skill in operating various types of office equipment such as personal computer, various software programs, and telephone systems. Skill in identifying and resolving VTX1 Companies customer issues. Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. Professional appearance. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments. Ability to pay close attention to detail.
