About The Position

The Idaho Sagebrush Sea Uplands Project Manager will further The Nature Conservancy in Idaho’s conservation goals by planning and implementing conservation projects in coordination with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) staff and partners across Idaho, with a focus on the Upper Salmon and Upper Snake River Basins in Idaho. This effort is part of a cooperative agreement focused on providing implementation, monitoring, and strategy capacity to support BLM and other regional and state partners to accelerate riparian restoration, upland restoration, and livestock grazing management projects in high priority Idaho sagebrush landscapes. This work will help support and maintain functioning wildlife habitats and provide for the long-term conservation of wildlife and biodiversity on public lands. The implementation of livestock grazing management practices and tools, including virtual fencing and stock water distribution systems, will align with BLM priorities to improve habitat quality and connectivity. The Idaho Sagebrush Sea Uplands Project Manager develops, manages, and advances conservation projects that maintain and restore important sagebrush steppe habitats across large geographic areas. They collaborate closely with Bureau of Land Management staff, key partner agencies, TNC specialists, livestock permittees, and other partners to prioritize opportunities and develop high-impact projects. They develop requests for proposals, contract with vendors, and manage contracts to ensure successful project implementation while controlling costs. They manage the portfolio of projects to ensure alignment with TNC priorities and consistency with TNC’s cooperative agreement with the BLM. This position is non-supervisory but depends on marshaling partners and resources to advance conservation goals. This role will at times require working under minimal supervision and making independent decisions. This role will also work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. This is a term position and subject to early termination should its supporting agreement end prematurely. Position funding is projected to end in September 2029. This position will report to the Idaho Sagebrush Sea Program Manager. Requirements

  • BA/BS in natural resource management or related field and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, livestock management, land management, and riparian restoration or ecology.
  • Experience planning and implementing habitat restoration, rangeland improvement/ infrastructure projects, or similar.
  • Experience with monitoring and adaptive management.
  • Experience negotiating and managing agreements and contracts.
  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, GIS applications (ArcGIS Pro), and Web Browsers.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with federal agency staff, contractors, livestock permittees, and other partners to advance shared outcomes.
  • Develop, manage, and implement projects that maintain and restore important sagebrush steppe habitats in Idaho.
  • Manage project finances, including by developing, negotiating, and managing contracts and agreements, working with vendors, developing and managing budgets, and controlling costs.
  • Ensure project compliance with internal policies and external requirements, including applicable regulations and processes.
  • Under minimal supervision, make independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
