QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree preferred Prefer 5+ years of classroom experience with exemplary performance evaluations. In-depth knowledge of reading, writing, and literacy development. Demonstrated expertise in content, curriculum development, student learning, test analysis, mentoring, and professional development as demonstrated by an advanced degree, advanced training, and/or career experience. Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills. Interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching, and an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults. REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: The literacy coach will support all K - 5 staff in the implementation of the site reading and writing plan and program. The coach will work directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The coach will focus on enhancing teachers' ability to provide instruction that builds students' sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop action plans for the academic year with explicit, measurable goals. Guide teachers to collect and analyze data in response to determined student needs. Provide individualized, classroom-based support to implement comprehensive program and self-analysis of lessons. This will include modeling of best teaching practices and possibly covering of classes, so the teacher can observe other classes. Work with the principals to create a school-wide focus on goals for literacy achievement. Oversee the school's assessment procedure, training, data collection and collaborate with the principal to complete reports due. Participate fully in professional development opportunities and professional research and reading. Develop, organize, and provide staff development based on best practices and aligned with school goals. Collaborate with elementary and secondary facilitators to create strong interdisciplinary literacy instruction and tight transitions. Facilitate, guide, and lead team meetings with the purpose of teachers demonstrating, critiquing, and implementing new strategies. Reviews current assessment data and local standards assessments to assure alignment with the state's assessment.
