About The Position

The goal of the Safety Specialist is to support the HSE Manager to create a safe and healthy workplace by preventing injuries and illnesses through compliance, proactive hazard control, and fostering a strong, employee-driven safety culture. This position will provide support in implementing safety programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as industry and client requirements. This role will involve conducting safety inspections, tracking training, and assisting in promoting a culture of safety within the organization. This position requires a strong work ethic, a high degree of professionalism with the ability to work with little supervision and communicate effectively across all organizational hierarchies.

Requirements

  • An associates degree in HSE / Occupational safety or similar is strongly preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in occupational safety, HSE, or related environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, DOT) preferred.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, including good organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English (Spanish language skills desirable)
  • Experience working with HSE management systems or reporting platforms (e.g., Intelex or similar) preferred.
  • Familiarity with fleet telematics or vehicle tracking systems (i.e., Samsara or equivalent) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain client HSE performance and compliance web accounts (i.e., ISNetworld, NCMS, TPS Alert, Veriforce, Safety Essentials, HASC) to meet contractual and regulatory requirements to the highest level.
  • Track and coordinate DOT/Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, random, post-accident, pre-access), background screenings, and motor vehicle record (MVR) checks for client and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, hazard IDs to determine root causes and proposes preventive actions through the HSE Platform (i.e., Intelex).
  • Create and distribute HSE reports, metrics, and findings to stakeholders within the organization.
  • Manage and drive compliance with HSE policies and procedures, supporting the implementation of new policies as required, and ensure proper HSE training of all affected employees (including new hire, client required training, train-the-trainer programs)
  • Perform and maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, hazard IDs, near-misses and on-site training sessions, including monthly HSE reports.
  • Maintain employee HSE training tracker, ensuring mandatory safety training is completed and documented
  • Assist in preforming internal and external safety audits, including worksite audits, and addresses non-conformities.
  • Perform an active role in continuous improvement and implementation of local HSE initiatives (i.e.: See-it-Own-It program, Global Safety Campaigns and local HSE programs, Stop Work Authority)
  • Stays updated on industry standards, best practices and regulatory changes related to workplace and field safety.
  • Oversee the regional fleet telematics platform (i.e., Samsara), analyzing driver, vehicle, and sensor data to identify risks, improve safety performance, and support compliance and fleet efficiency initiatives.
