About The Position

The Safety Specialist will provide leadership and support within the SHS organization (SCS and FMS) to ensure that goals and key business objectives related to various safety programs are accomplished efficiently and consistently. Ensure effective collaboration between Ryder SCS organization and key vendor/supplier partners by implementing and monitoring important safety processes and programs. Develop future and monitor existing programs and processes that drive improved regulatory compliance and accountability and improve bottom line performance of the SCS organization through the implementation of preventive processes, reduction of safety related events and subsequent losses (injuries, collisions and security losses).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, manage and administer company-wide safety award programs, recognition events and ad-hoc safety related special projects for North America (Driver of the Month/Year; Mileage Club; Ryder Safety Rewards; Chairman’s Safety Award; Safety Roll Call Poster, Employee Appreciation Week, etc.)
  • Manage, monitor and audit vendors/suppliers to ensure safety-related programs and processes drive improved regulatory compliance and accountability
  • Develop, update and maintain programs, policy and training/webinars that promote SHS process/program consistency and efficiencies
  • Manage and coordinate the company’s Major Incident Review process by directing all aspects of the required highly sensitive documentation with close interactions with field operators, safety and legal for executive leadership review
  • Serve as Ryder Headquarters’ point of contact for all external safety-related issues and manage numerous company-wide safety-related complaints from the public
  • Participate as the business leader for SHS on ad-hoc company initiatives
  • Maintain company-wide OSHA-related cases database for Board reporting purposes
  • Administer the SCS Safety Hotline investigation process in accordance with Global Compliance
  • Coordinate, develop and distribute monthly safety scorecard reports for U.S. and Canada SCS and Ryder Dedicated, in addition to organize and distribute monthly agendas for safety scorecard calls for U.S. and Canada SCS and Ryder Dedicated executive leadership, as well as quarterly CSA performance review calls
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
