Safety Specialist
About The Position
Under the general direction of the Safety Manager the Safety Specialist is responsible to promote safe and healthy working conditions by developing programs, procedures and audit functions designed to eliminate industrial health and safety hazards at the Rosebud Mine in compliance with MSHA, State regulations and Company established guidelines and procedures. The Safety Specialist must always promote safety awareness to all employees and assist the Safety Manager with accident and incident reporting, workers’ compensation reporting and MSHA compliance and reporting. Prepare weekly Safety reports and during the Safety Managers absences prepare monthly Safety Reports. Assist with MSHA required training, i.e. New Miner, Supervisor’s First Aid and Annual Refresher Training.
Requirements
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experience in the Mining Health & Safety field
- Experience in mining methods and equipment
- Basic computer knowledge
- Statistical, analytical and evaluative skills to analyze and communicate Mine safety information
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and State and Federal Mine safety representatives
- Valid driver’s license through the duration of employment
- Meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland’s policies or Driver’s insurance provider
