The Safety Sitter role primarily functions as a constant monitor for patients requiring continuous observation, observing and reporting behaviors that may interrupt medically necessary therapies or perceived changes in the patient's condition to appropriate healthcare team members. This role operates under the direction of a registered nurse or a clinical supervisor. The safety sitter focuses on promoting a positive patient experience by partnering with the patient, family, and other care providers, offering excellence in customer service and assistance with daily living activities and comfort measures. They may also assist other healthcare providers with safe, age-appropriate, and culturally competent care, including basic patient care functions like ADL's, ambulation, and toileting. The position requires working in a fast-paced, stressful environment, demanding observation, ongoing communication with the interdisciplinary team, and the ability to take direction while maintaining a compassionate, respectful, and helpful demeanor.
