About The Position

Position Summary: This is a regular part-time flex position that offer 0-20 hours per week with a compensation of $18.50/hour. Weekly hours are dependent upon scheduled events and staffing needs. The Flex Ambassador supports the Safety and Security program at Taliesin West with a specialized focus on event operations, vendor oversight, and operational flexibility. This role provides a visible, professional presence during vendor load-in, active event hours, and load-out, ensuring the safety of guests, staff, and vendors while protecting the Foundation’s historic property. This position is critical during high-risk operational periods, particularly as many vendors are new or temporary workers unfamiliar with the property, requiring active oversight and guidance to ensure safe practices and adherence to preservation standards. The Flex Ambassador serves as an operationally agile resource, supporting: High-risk event periods (load-in/load-out), vendor safety and accountability, supplemental event monitoring, and staffing continuity & operational resilience. Reporting to the Safety and Security Manager, the Safety and Security Flex Ambassador is a member of the Public Engagement team and provides a visible, professional presence that supports safety and security and fosters a welcoming environment at Taliesin West. Security Ambassadors fulfill four core responsibilities: Provide a visible Safety and Security presence during event load-in, event operations, and load-out to ensure safe operations for guests, vendors, and staff Actively monitor vendor activities to ensure safe handling of equipment, furniture, and materials Educate and guide vendors, many of whom may be unfamiliar with the property, on safe practices and site expectations Identify and address unsafe behaviors or policy violations in real time

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in safety, security, and/or guest service roles.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to engage with diverse audiences.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor with attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and event-based schedules
  • Ability to respond to on-site emergency calls
  • Physical ability to traverse paved and unpaved desert terrain and stand or walk for extended periods
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License
  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • No Arizona Department of Public Safety Security Guard Card required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with security operations within a museum, historic setting, or cultural institution
  • A valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Unarmed Security Guard License
  • Certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid
  • De-escalation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations

Responsibilities

  • Protect the integrity of Taliesin West’s historic structures, landscapes, and pathways
  • Monitor for potential damage risks associated with vendor movement and event activity
  • Intervene early to prevent damage or unsafe conditions
  • Provide flexible staffing support, including coverage for last-minute call-offs due to illness, transportation issues, or other unforeseen circumstances
  • Maintain continuous communication with Event Management and Security leadership
  • Serve as a liaison between event staff, vendors, and security personnel
  • Observe, assess, and respond appropriately to safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or incidents
  • Document all relevant activities, incidents, and observations in Daily Activity Reports
  • Conduct post-event walkthroughs to identify damage, maintenance concerns, or safety issues
  • Assist with emergency response procedures, including weather events, wildlife incidents, medical emergencies, evacuations, and coordination with first responders.
  • Maintain a professional, approachable presence that promotes a safe and welcoming environment
  • Monitor guests from a respectful distance during events to ensure compliance with Foundation policies
  • Apply situational awareness and proactive engagement to reduce risk during high-impact operational periods
  • Support a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment while enforcing policies
  • Identify, respond to, and document safety and security concerns
  • Provide flexible, cross-functional support to maintain continuity of operations
  • Maintain confidentiality, accountability, and professionalism
