Job Summary: Safety Representative Reese, MI | Full-Time | On-Site About DHT: At DHT, safety is at the heart of everything we do. We’re seeking a dedicated Safety Representative to lead our compliance and safety initiatives and help strengthen our company-wide safety culture. Position Summary: The Safety Representative is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing DHT’s employee safety culture at work. This role ensures that the company complies with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to reduce workplace incidents and promote a safe, efficient operation. The ideal candidate will have verifiable CDLA semi-truck driving experience and be capable of immediately performing the essential duties listed below. This is an on-site position located in Reese, MI, requiring daily commute and occasional travel to other DHT facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Promote good communication and cooperation
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented
  • Must have the mindset to continuously look for improvements
  • Must be a team player who can also work autonomously
  • Previous verifiable class A vehicle driving experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing via telephone, email, and written correspondence
  • Ability to communicate one on one with drivers of various experience levels for training and coaching
  • Valid driver's license, CDLA, with acceptable MVR
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen and background check
  • This position is not remote, and applicant will have to commute to the main office

Nice To Haves

  • CDL-A license with verifiable semi-truck driving experience
  • Prior experience in DOT, OSHA, or MIOSHA safety compliance
  • Strong understanding of transportation safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and investigative skills
  • Ability to lead training sessions and promote safety awareness at all levels
  • MIOSHA and/or OSHA exposure, training, or certification preferred
  • Safety background or working knowledge of safety protocols relative to the trucking industry
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA policies

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and audit driver logs, training records, and driver files for multiple locations
  • Administer new employee safety orientations in coordination with HR
  • Maintain DOT safety and compliance programs, including Driver Qualification Files, Random Pool, and DOT/State permits and audits
  • Maintain OSHA/MIOSHA safety and compliance files, including OSHA 300 logs
  • Assist with fleet insurance, plates, and tabs
  • Maintain State and Federal environmental compliance records
  • Create and update International Fuel Tax Reports and state-specific fuel tax reports
  • Investigate accidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Communicate incident findings to management and legal counsel as appropriate
  • Conduct workplace and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Develop and maintain company safety policies, training materials, and communications
  • Administer and track Workers’ Compensation claims and maintain related files
  • Monitor Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, compliance, inventory, and distribution
  • Investigate and adjudicate driver traffic violations; attend court hearings as required
