About The Position

The Safety Programs Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, leadership, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide safety programs across manufacturing, distribution, and support operations. This role sits between a technical safety/process engineering position and a senior strategic safety leadership role. The position provides both hands-on program ownership and cross-functional leadership, with particular accountability for Process Safety Management (PSM) and Radiation Safety programs. The Safety Programs Manager partners with site leadership (manufacturing and distribution), corporate engineering, operations, and employee-driven safety teams to ensure regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and the advancement of a strong, proactive safety culture that exceeds regulatory expectations.

Requirements

  • Progressive experience in manufacturing or industrial safety, including hands-on ownership of safety programs.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or managing Process Safety Management programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and related Health & Safety regulations and standards.
  • Ability to balance technical detail with practical, site-level execution.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools, spreadsheets, and documentation systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Ability to travel between facilities and work in manufacturing environments and distribution centers.
  • Ability to access elevated areas, walk production floors, and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Time split between office and plant environments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with radiation safety programs, licensing, and regulatory compliance preferred (current training as a RSO preferred)
  • Master’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and sustains comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures aligned with corporate EHS objectives and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Leads cross-functional teams to improve safe work practices, establish leading and lagging indicators, and drive measurable performance improvements at the corporate and site levels.
  • Analyzes injury, incident, near-miss, and behavioral data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities, and drives corrective actions.
  • Supports and strengthens employee-driven safety teams and site safety committees to enhance shop-floor engagement and ownership of safety outcomes.
  • Manages and oversees applicable elements of OSHA Process Safety Management programs, including Process Hazard Analysis, Management of Change, Mechanical Integrity, Operating Procedures, Contractor Safety, and Incident Investigation.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains Process Safety Information and safe operating limits for PSM-covered processes and equipment.
  • Maintains the current, effective Radiation Safety Program, including licensing, dosimetry monitoring, training, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting.
  • Serves as, or supports the role of, facility Radiation Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state radiation regulations.
  • Coordinates audits, inspections, and corrective actions related to radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment.
  • Maintains working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and other applicable Health & Safety regulations and best practices; communicates regulatory changes and implementation requirements.
  • Leads or supports audits, inspections, and regulatory agency interactions, including development and tracking of corrective actions.
  • Conducts or oversees industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments using internal or external resources.
  • Supports incident investigations, root cause analysis, and development of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develops and delivers safety training programs, work instructions, and documentation to support compliance and safe work execution.
  • Utilizes continuous improvement tools to coach leaders and teams in hazard identification and risk reduction.
  • Maintains effective safety records, databases, and reporting systems to support compliance and performance measurement.
  • Provides guidance, mentoring, and technical support to site safety resources and operational leaders.
  • Works collaboratively with Engineering, Operations, HR, Occupational Health, and Risk Management to integrate safety into business processes.
  • Supports emergency response planning, drills, and readiness across facilities.
