About The Position

The Behavioral Health Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring workplace safety by implementing policies, conducting training, and ensuring health and safety requirements are met. Position will be highly independent and operate under minimal supervision. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, comfortable conducting trainings and presentations, and will highly visible doing rounds throughout the facility daily. This position is located onsite at the Texas Behavioral Health Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field (Safety, Security, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Fire Science)
  • 5 years experience in directing Safety Programs in a Health Care Setting

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, organize, implement, monitor and regularly report on a comprehensive Safety Program for Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) including the evaluation of all risks and establishment of specific quantifiable goals and other criteria.
  • Ensure the development, updating and distribution of plans, minutes, policies, procedures and other documentation related to the hospital safety program.
  • Ensure fulfillment of applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines from TJC, CDC, OSHA, NIOSH, TDH and other agencies.
  • Collaborate with other Safety programs in incident response, including working knowledge of the life safety code, fire suppression equipment, fire panel, and emergency response.
  • Direct and guide the development of training programs and materials related to safety, provide safety training, and coordinate relevant training provided by others.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Management in development, training and execution of emergency operations including planning, incident response, drills and exercises.
  • Coordinate with UTSW Safety programs, University Police, Hospital Staff and other experts on matters related to the Physical Environment including Security, Hazardous Materials, Fire Safety, other Safety programs, Biomedical Equipment and Utility Systems.
  • Direct and lead surveying and inspection efforts and perform safety surveys to identify any potentially hazardous conditions and any deficiencies in staff knowledge or performance.
  • Collaborate and work with the workplace violence team to ensure staff training, competency and incident response including de-escalation training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
