About The Position

We are a leading, single-source electrical construction and telecommunications services supplier for the New York metropolitan area. Our expertise includes tenant fit-out, power infrastructure, data center infrastructure, network design, structured cabling, and electrical system design-build, installation, and maintenance. Forest Electric NY is committed to creating a stronger culture of safety awareness and execution. We have an immediate need for a safety professional to manage our safety process within New York City, and more importantly to be a field presence to ensure its execution and compliance. The Safety Manager position will work hand-in-hand with the current leaders of our safety program, and work with designated foreman as “Safety Champions”. These individuals will be given advanced training in specific fields of safety, and will have the ability to train and educate other foremen and field personnel.

Requirements

  • 62-hour Site Safety Supervisor card
  • Ability to identify known and potential safety related exposures
  • Board of Certified Safety Professional

Nice To Haves

  • Site Safety Manager Certification through the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Update and create safety policies
  • Create safety training schedules and continued education programs
  • Implement programs for safety initiatives
  • Coordinate with Corporate safety programs, and work with Company and Corporate safety teams
  • Ensure compliance and accuracy of reporting policies
  • Ability to identify known and potential safety related exposures
  • Interact with Local Union #3 and Joint Industry Board safety teams
  • Ensure the proper relay of information to field personnel
  • Understand and monitor safety statistics
  • Monitor inventory and quality of PPE
  • Review Methods of Procedure and Pre-Task Plans prior to shutdowns and installations
  • Be present on-site during any shutdowns, tie-ins, live work, etc.
  • Stay current on industry updates, attend seminars and additional trainings
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Client and Property Owner safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular documented field inspections of work activities
  • Perform safety briefings with foremen and crews
  • OSHA record keeping
  • Insure the availability and proper use of PPE
  • Conduct Tool Box Talks
  • Equipment Inspections (Harnesses, electrical cords, PPE, tools, ladders, lifts, etc.)
  • Prepare Job and Task Hazard Analyses and action plans
  • When possible, personally handle First Aid / accompany injured worker to medical facility
  • Conduct near-miss, accident and injury investigations
  • Hold weekly safety meetings
  • Attend Management meetings (i.e. planning, progress)
  • Enforce Disciplinary Policy
  • Develop / Perform Site Orientation Training
