About The Position

The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the quality of the Charah Safety Program exceeds customer expectations. This position will involve leading, training and developing a team of Safety Specialists to consistently deliver excellence and adhere to all safety laws and regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, MSHA and DOT standards. Responsibilities Position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time. Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the entire Safety Program Train, coach and mentor operations leaders and safety professionals in the content and requirements of the Charah safety programs Lead the Safety team in continuous improvement of safety statistics Lead and/or assist in the development of safety procedures, programs, and training Oversee or assist (depending on seriousness of impact or risk) the response and correction of significant safety events such as serious injury or illness, fatalities, regulatory action, negative press coverage, etc. Set goals and lead the safety team to accomplish these goals Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the safety protocols, procedures, and tools of the governance program (self-assessment, compliance assurance, and audit) Act as the safety auditor and audit leader, trainer, and mentor of auditors-in-training Direct and oversee the management of the industrial hygiene program including annual schedule development and management of industrial hygiene contract services Develop new policy and procedures as needed and to keep Charah in compliance and ahead of potential safety issues Make frequent site visits with and without Safety Specialist to monitor and ensure safety compliance Effectively communicate and collaborate with central leadership, regional operations, and field teams to ensure safety strategies and programs align with corporate expectations and policies Equip the safety team with necessary resources and training to be the best in their field Proactively address concerns of the safety program Display excellent verbal and written communication skills Maintain initiative to preserve the flow of work Able to work effectively under stress and with commitment to deadlines Monitor and stay current with all OSHA, DOT, MSHA and other state, local and federal regulations Complete projects and/or reports in accurate and timely manner Maintain Company information in a confidential manner Be creative in thinking of ways to implement continuous process and procedural improvement to meet and exceed customer’s demands

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or related field, and a minimum of six years managing others with job related experience including experience in safety and/or compliance functions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required
  • OSHA 510 certification required
  • A familiarity with OSHA 1910 and 1926 standards and CFR 30 parts 1-99
  • A familiarity with MSHA and DOT standards and requirements
  • Familiarity with Federal Motor Safety Guidelines
  • A working knowledge of heavy equipment and excavation safety
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
  • Position requires honesty, dependability, and ability to be relied upon, responsible, and fulfill obligations
  • Ability to use electronic equipment such as computer, cell phone and handheld radio for communication with supervisors and co-workers
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to hear and see naturally or with correction
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Be subject to loud noises
  • Be subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
  • This position requires working in the internal and external environment
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment
  • Must have steel toe safety boots

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional or similar accredited certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals preferred
  • Prior experience in the ash management, waste, or construction industry.
  • Large scale excavations work a plus

Responsibilities
