About The Position

What will you do in this role? The Corporate Safety Manager is directly responsible for implementing the Health and Safety Program and managing the safety and risk associated with homebuilding and Company operations in multiple states. The Safety Manager will proactively plan, implement, and update the Program to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment for our Team Members, Trade Partners and Inspectors, Customers, and the public in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety requirements. The Safety Manager sets the tone for jobsite safety and risk management, leads by example, positively changes in behaviors, and strives to drive safety in the Company culture. Primary areas of focus include: Risk Management Reports to the Vice President of Construction Services and maintains proactive, frequent, and open communication with Market and Support Center leadership Responsible for supporting and managing safety initiatives in all markets to ensure each community is conducting operations according to the Health and Safety Program Provide recommendations and assistance to Builders and Construction Management, with respect to job site hazards, Team Member and Trade Partner training, safe equipment operation, and safe material or substance utilization. Liaise with government-employed inspectors and provide support to field staff in the event of an OSHA inspection Ensure compliance with worker’s compensation program including working with internal personnel and third-party administrators/legal counsel, to effectively investigate and resolve claims in an expeditious and cost-effective manner. Remain current on federal, state, county, and local safety regulations. Keep management advised of new or revised regulations and their projected impact. Provide assistance with representation in meetings with government bodies and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety Coordinate with Purchasing, Land, and Construction management to train and/or discipline Trade Partners and Associates who fail to comply with required safety standards Plan and implement project-specific risk management, safety policies, and procedures in compliance with all federal, state, county and local rules and regulations, including MSDS requirements, for both field and office operations, to create and maintain a safe working environment Create and monitor budgets and manage invoices and submittals for safety-related costs in multiple markets Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures Auditing Responsible for the field safety focus ensuring the Company and its job sites remain hazard and accident free by overseeing frequent and regular safety inspections. Review, update, and implement the Health and Safety Program to ensure that frequent and regular inspections of all sites and communities occur, and findings are effectively resolved by the proper teams Maintain and track Safety Agreements with all Trade Partners Perform audits and inspections to ensure compliance of each community and team, evaluate performance of Associate inspections and Trade Partner performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments Coordinate regular third-party inspections in multiple markets and evaluate and respond to reported findings Work with Market teams to create and execute a building maintenance program for all company owned facilities; record and compile data, maintain logs, and schedule maintenance of equipment and building facilities as required to maintain safe and functioning working environment Ensure that field teams perform regular Toolbox Talks and safety meetings and record data in the correct software systems Perform and oversee investigation of accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies. Provide recommendations for remedial action. Track and delegate the maintenance of safety related paperwork for all facilities and communities, including OSHA 300 logs and safety training certifications Training Plan and implement programs to train Construction Managers, Builders, and other Associates in worksite safety practices, safe equipment operating techniques, with specific emphasis Falls, Struck-by, Caught-In/Between, and Electrocutions Facilitate and track Team Member training in First Aid and CPR Develop and implement onboarding programs for new Team Members, ensure they receive safety instructions prior to beginning work, and conduct refresher courses for existing Team Members Develop and implement onboarding programs for Trade Partners and ensure they receive safety instructions prior to beginning work, and conduct refresher courses Create new training programs and provide education to all levels of Team Members, as required, by Federal and State safety regulations, and as needed by changing company operations Create and perform Toolbox Talks for all trade categories and schedule and document attendance of Trade Partners and Team Members Additional areas of focus: Be a driving force for all departments to quickly solve or prevent issues from recurring Be proactive. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health/Safety or Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or similar related field
  • OSHA 30 Hour required
  • thorough knowledge and understanding of OSHA Standards 1910, 1926, and 1904 as they apply to residential homebuilding and development
  • Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to be coachable and adapt to the ever-changing environment of the residential construction industry
  • Solid project management skills with attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual in person attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly

Nice To Haves

  • CSP or CHST preferred and/or 5 years of related construction industry experience
