Take a peek into what makes us different here: https://youtu.be/AIt17t_uJ-A?si=oSMy5zQeUcb_faE3 Project Summary: The HBS Mission Critical - Safety Manager is responsible for enforcing safety standards, procedures, protocols and plans and administering safety training for their assigned region. The Safety Manager will oversee safety monitoring compliance and coordinate new hire safety orientation, high risk activity management plans, job site audits, toolbox talks, monthly data reports and documentation of methods and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health preferred. Other related degree programs or equivalent combination of training and industry related experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a safety-related role in the construction industry required.
  • OSHA certification required.
  • Experience with development and oversight of safety training programs required.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal, multi-state and local construction safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with construction industry practices, processes and standards.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement necessary corrective measures.
  • Excellent team collaboration and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills such as diplomacy, persuasion, assertiveness and managerial courage.
  • Ability to analyze the company’s strengths and potential weak areas in relation to safety and develop proactive process improvements based on best practices.
  • Skilled in designing and delivering classroom instruction and facilitating effective individual and group learning, including planning effective training programs, delivering the necessary content and continuous evaluation and improvement of programs.
  • Excellent ability to establish and foster effective professional relationships with others, including employees at all levels of the organization, vendors, contractors, etc.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Work is performed in a variety of settings, including on project sites as well as in the office.
  • Navigating and traversing uneven surfaces and ladders, bending, kneeling, lifting, etc.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.
  • Ability to stand and sit frequently.
  • Routine driving on project sites required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Overnight travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps current on construction industry safety standards and consistently monitors the safety program to ensure best practices in safety and risk management.
  • Makes recommendations to management on all safety-related issues.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and incident programs, procedures and policies.
  • Collaborates with construction management on projects to provide technical and administrative input.
  • Leads the site-specific safety committee in defining and achieving strategic goals related to safety programs and metrics.
  • Regularly communicates the status of safety records to stakeholders.
  • Assists and develops site specific safety plans and training when required.
  • Attends all job kick-off meetings and defines safety expectations for our team, subcontractors and clients.
  • Develops and facilitates safety training programs, including field employee safety orientation as well as regular safety training on a variety of topics.
  • Controls hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and collaboration with other operations supervisory personnel.
  • Conducts proactive jobsite surveillance/inspections and prepares reports.
  • Thoroughly investigates all worksite safety incidents, prepares the appropriate documentation and communicates the status of incidents to management in accordance with corporate procedures.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources to monitor the return-to-work process for injured employees to minimize the impact of an injured worker returning to a jobsite. Assists in identifying work an injured worker can perform.
  • Works closely with the Safety Director to minimize liability and worker’s compensation exposure.
  • Accompanies all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through tours.
  • Coordinates or assists in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources to manage worksite drug and alcohol testing procedures in all geographic areas as needed.
  • Represents Henderson, in conjunction with Risk Management, in safety related legal hearings (OSHA, etc.) as needed.
