Safety Inspectors are required to have a strong understanding of aviation safety principles, aircraft operation and maintenance, AAR policies and federal laws. Primarily, inspectors make sure mechanics, technicians, QC inspectors, aircraft and other equipment function properly. Troubleshooting, diagnosing and repair skills are also part of the job. They perform investigations of accidents, incidents and customer reported quality escapes, compiling objective evidence by conducting interviews, reviewing documentation, observing activities, performing audits, surveillance and investigations to determine whether organizations and/or individuals (management or non-management) are conducting business in accordance with regulations and established policies and procedures. Safety Inspector provides direction and recommendations for the resolution of matters of non-conformance through the development of corrective action plans, comprehensive fixes and/or process changes. The evaluations may include the adequacy of the repair station facilities, maintenance, equipment and procedures; the competence of employees; the adequacy of the program or schedule for periodic maintenance and overhauls; and the airworthiness of the aircraft. Safety Inspectors may perform a variety of other inspections and or audits, investigations and advisory duties. However, the primary requirement for positions in this specialty is knowledge and skill pertaining to the maintenance and airworthiness of aircraft.
