About The Position

To provide support to the SHE organization within Operations, including development and implementation of SHE-related programs, training, preparation and submittal of various reports required by regulatory agencies, and the day-to-day management of SHE-related operations. This position will have a broad scope of SHE responsibilities but may have specialized duties with a focus on health and safety. Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with others is key. The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Excellent vendor management skills. Interface with external vendors accordingly to ensure documented expectations are met and address all issues in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience leading grassroots safety working groups to drive employee engagement, education, and participation in safety programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety programs based on OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Electrical safety experience, including knowledge of NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Pressure safety experience, including hazard evaluation and control.
  • Experience working with high-power laser systems.
  • Training program experience, including evaluating training needs and conducting and delivering effective training.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, implement, and oversee health & safety programs that assist BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) in being compliant with OSHA, NFPA, and other health & safety-related regulations and standards. This includes, but is not limited to, Hazard Communication Standard, respiratory protection, electrical worker safety, laser safety, radiation safety, etc.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring including, but not limited to, air sampling and airflow measurements, IH surveys, etc., as part of the IH program.
  • Recommend and/or supply proper protective equipment to BAE Systems SMS employees.
  • Provide health & safety-related statistical data to BAE Systems SMS employees, including management personnel, as required.
  • Establish, implement, and oversee health & safety-related regulatory compliance programs within BAE Systems SMS to assist employees with health & safety compliance.
  • Represent BAE Systems SMS as a liaison with regulatory agencies, other departments, groups, plants, and BAE Systems SMS on matters that pertain to health & safety, as directed by the Environmental, Health, and Safety management.
  • Establish, conduct, and/or oversee periodic health & safety inspections at all BAE Systems SMS facilities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Address non-compliant situations by conferring with area management to develop a timely solution.
  • Oversee necessary licensing activities associated with new or modified facilities or operations (i.e., radiation licensing), as directed by Environmental, Health and Safety management.
  • Prepare justification for contracts with various outside contractors/consultants, as directed by Environmental, Health, and Safety management.
  • Conduct health & safety-related training and document, as required by Company policy.
  • Review, interpret, and comment (when appropriate) on new and proposed health & safety regulations (federal, state, and local) for impact on BAE Systems SMS operations. Advise management of the regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, assist and/or support internal accident/incident investigations.
  • Prepare or review health & safety-related correspondence to regulatory agencies such as reports, compliance plans, questionnaires, etc.
  • May include supervisory responsibilities.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
