About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Safety Education Manager for the Office of Law Enforcement. This position will direct staff statewide engaged in training individuals and organizations administering the mandated safety education programs for hunting, boating, snowmobling and trapping; develop and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives for each safety program; travel and attend various conservation organizations, constituent groups, educational systems, park districts, media and general public events promoting the safety education program; prepare all necessary budgetary documents and reports required by the division and the Pitman-Robertson Federal program. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires ability to work overtime when needed.
  • Requires possession of a valid FOID card.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Prefers (2) years of implementing various types of teaching and/or training seminars in a live audience setting.
  • Prefers (2) years of experience developing education curriculum for training and teaching.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of staff utilization and employee motivation.
  • Prefers (2) years of experience developing and managing a supportive agency program.
  • Prefers (2) years of experience developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures and performance standards.
  • Prefers (2) years of experience estimating and budgeting for future needs and costs of personnel equipment, supplies and services.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as full-line Supervisor.
  • Serves as administrator over the mandatory statewide Safety Education Section program and staff.
  • Determines the effectiveness of the Safety Education Program.
  • Develops and administers the program budget.
  • Determines the need for training equipment for the Safety Education Program.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
