About The Position

Octane Design, LLC seeks an experienced, hands-on Safety Director to assist our General Contracting and 3PL divisions by developing and leading comprehensive safety strategies, encompassing compliance, training, loss prevention, culture, and professional oversight. This position is based on-site in Phoenix, AZ and requires frequent travel.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience creating and leading safety operations in a varied commercial construction environment, including tenant improvements, remodels, ground-up construction and fast-track schedules. Additional experience in third-party logistics involving warehouse operations, is particularly valuable.
  • An accredited bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management or a related field is preferred, although the equivalent of work experience and safety-related certifications (such as CSP, ASP, CHST, STS, OSHA 510, OSHA 500) will be considered.
  • Additional certification or documented training for forklift, scissor, heavy equipment, or driving (non-CDL) is a plus.

  • Proficiency with Procore Construction Management software or MS Project is necessary; Fieldwire experience highly desired.
  • Highly proficient user of Microsoft 365 business suite tools.
  • Frequent air and car travel required. A valid domestic driver license, Real ID or another TSA-approved document is required, along with the ability to pass a background check including MVR history.
  • Able to lift and transport 50 lbs. at a time; frequent sitting, standing, bending and kneeling; extended use of common office equipment, telephone and computer screen required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an intrinsic, company-wide, safety-first culture that can be easily communicated and integrated to all General Contracting and 3PL stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Principals, GC and 3PL leadership to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for safety compliance, training, audits and recordkeeping.
  • Function as the primary safety contact for colleagues, and externally for clients, vendors, subcontractor and regulatory entities.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards and risks through regular inspections, site audits and PPE enforcement.
  • Investigate safety incidents and take corrective action to prevent recurrences.
  • Implement emergency plans and procedures, including appropriate contingencies based on site location and local risk assessments.
