About The Position

This role is primarily responsible for leading and managing the Company’s safety initiatives and safety loss control programs, and the development of a safety and risk management culture dedicated to being best-in-class. Assures safety program is designed to comply with OSHA and other construction industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction Management or a comparable field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction industry safety management.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing and leading a structured safety program; self-performing general contractor or specialty contractor preferable.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of construction related OSHA, Federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
  • Experience managing staff and working cohesively in complicated scenarios.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to produce professional written material and deliver effective clear, impactful verbal presentations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Proficient in general and Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Teams, Adobe, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize company safety platforms, including Tyfoom and Motive.

  • OSHA 500, CSP certification preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of and clearly articulate the Company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results.
  • Provide proactive leadership and assume ownership of building a best-in-class safety culture by: 1. anticipating problems and providing solutions
  • sharing knowledge with and providing training to all levels of management, field staff and project teams
  • interacting with clients and staff 4. creating an environment of learning, mentoring, and empowerment to promote employee engagement.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and limitations of alternative solutions and conclusions and monitor results to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ensure safety and health training meet the needs of internal and external (client and regulating entities) requirements, so staff has can safely perform tasks and jobs.
  • Lead incident investigations.
  • Manage hazard assessment activities by 1. conducting and/or supervising safety inspections
  • analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventive and corrective practices.
  • Develop annual plans and budgets for safety and health initiatives, including training.
  • Lead and manage the safety staff: develop a high performance, customer-oriented work team through hiring, motivating, coaching, appraising, rewarding/disciplining, and addressing complaints and resolving issues related to staff.
  • Interact with insurance adjusters communicating factual events from company related commercial P&C claims.
  • Manage safety incentive programs which reward targeted behaviors and results.
  • Manage utility strikes, property damage, workers comp and vehicle claims.
  • Manage return to work and restricted duty program.
  • Lead or participate in Safety Committee.
  • Manage administration of Fleet Safety Program, including DOT compliance monitoring.
