About The Position

As the Safety Coordinator you will perform responsibilities to support and maintain a strong health and safety performance culture. The role supports a diverse assortment of safety projects, ensures best practices are implemented, affirms safety compliance requirements are met, demonstrates a personal commitment to safety and health excellence, and contributes to the creation of a healthy and safe workplace.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health or science-related discipline preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of OSHA 1910 and related local safety and health regulations.
  • At least three years’ safety experience in the operations and maintenance of a heavy industrial environment.
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends on a non-routine basis, when required, to support facility operations.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed (up to 20%).
  • Articulate communicator with excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, team player who is an effective influencer.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications that include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an active role in management of the facility’s safety and health programs; motivate, educate, and model Reworld’s safety and health policies for Detroit/Warren, MI.
  • Conduct safety observations, audits, and reports, and follow up on outstanding matters, to support continuous improvement in safety, and help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and conformance to company standards.
  • Educate employees on safety standards and expectations, including safe machine and equipment operations, and the administration of on-site certification for various mobile equipment.
  • Perform safety training for new hires, conduct contractor safety briefings, maintain, and coordinate external vendor training as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly safety-related training to multiple departments.
  • Manage contractors’ safety and health performance with facility management; ensure contractors are properly trained, use appropriate tools and equipment, and protect all employees from injury.
  • Provide support and guidance to the local Safety Committees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and schedule annual medical surveillance exams, annual respirator fit testing, industrial hygiene sampling, and annual emergency drills.
  • Support the investigation of on-site incidents and identify possible causes of the incident and support implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Assist with preparing regulatory reports, including OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program annual report where applicable.
  • Maintain documentation of the Company’s safety procedures, incidents, tailgate meetings, and other related administrative requirements and events.
  • Assist with submissions of information into the Ideagen software system.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
