About The Position

The Safety and Security Lead supports the district’s physical security infrastructure through a combination of proactive security support and incident response. This position focuses primarily on security-related systems, including surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control, while providing operational support to school sites. The Safety and Security Lead responds to security concerns as they arise, assists with maintaining consistent security practices throughout the district, and serves as a primary point of contact for incoming crisis line calls, ensuring appropriate tirage, timely response, coordination, and escalation in accordance with district procedures. Oversees the visitor management program for all sites and is responsible for the employee fingerprinting process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant job-related experience
  • Ability to obtain a State of Arizona Identify Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid state issued driver license (position requires travel to multiple sites using a district vehicle)
  • Experience working with security-related systems such as surveillance cameras, alarms, access control, or similar technology.
  • Knowledge of school safety practices and emergency protocols.
  • Familiarity with incident command concepts (ICS/NIMS).
  • Ability to handle crisis or emergency calls in a calm, professional manner.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and communicate effectively with non-technical users.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in written and oral format to staff, colleagues, district leadership, and the governing board.
  • Business/management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Equipment, policies, and procedures for the protection of people, data, property, and the organization.
  • Relevant local, state, and national laws and government regulations including Board of Education policy
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while collaborating with others
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local emergency management regulations, plans and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Security systems support & coordination
  • Support the day-to-day operation of district security systems, including surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
  • Monitor system status, identify issues, and coordinate service, repairs, or follow-up with vendors, Facilities, IT, and school sites.
  • Assist with security camera review requests under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security and in accordance with district policy and legal guidance.
  • Maintain system documentation, inventories, and service logs related to security systems.
  • Support standardized security system practices across all district schools.
  • Oversee and complete fingerprinting of volunteers for the school district (training provided)
  • Oversee the visitor management program
  • Proactive Security Support
  • Conduct proactive outreach to school sites to identify potential security system issues or operational concerns.
  • Assist school staff with questions related to security systems, security procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Conduct routine checks, follow-ups, and coordination to help maintain effective security operations district-wide.
  • Provide training and guidance to school staff on security expectations and best practices.
  • Incident Response
  • Answer and triage incoming district crisis line calls, gathering critical information and initiating appropriate response actions.
  • Provide real-time support to school sites during security-related incidents.
  • Support and coordinate with school sites regarding emergency lockdown protocol drills and actual security incidents, including communication, accountability support, and escalation as appropriate.
  • Coordinate notifications and escalation to the Director of Safety & Security, district leadership, emergency responders, or other departments as required.
  • Assist with documentation, follow-up, and after-action activities related to incidents, drills, and crisis line calls.
  • Maintain a tracking log of all crisis line incidents and their resolution.
  • Coordination & Collaboration
  • Serve as a point of coordination between school sites, the Safety & Security Department, Facilities, IT, and external partners.
  • Communicate system limitations, timelines, and expectations clearly to school staff and administrators.
  • Develop and update procedures, reference materials, and training resources related to security systems and emergency protocols.
