Role Summary MetaPhase is supporting a federal client undergoing a large-scale Agile transformation from team-level Scrum to the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This effort is focused on improving coordination across multiple development teams across multiple legacy and modernized systems, aligning delivery with enterprise priorities, and increasing the speed and quality of mission-critical system delivery. In support of this project, Metaphase is looking for a SAFe Scrum Master with at least (2) two years of relevant experience to be a servant leader for Agile teams operating within Agile Release Trains (ARTs), ensuring effective execution of SAFe ceremonies, removal of impediments, and alignment with program-level objectives. The Scrum Master will play a key role in facilitating team performance while contributing to broader SAFe adoption and continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires experience working in a SAFe environment, supporting cross-team coordination, Program Increment (PI) planning, and scaled delivery across complex, multi-team systems.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master in a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment supporting multiple teams or ARTs.
  • SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master (SASM) certification from accredited organization.
  • Experience supporting federal government or classified programs.
  • Strong understanding of SAFe principles, Agile methodologies, and Lean-Agile mindset.
  • Experience facilitating PI Planning, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and program-level ceremonies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-team dependencies, risks, and delivery coordination.
  • Experience using Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to coach teams on Agile best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in complex, fast-paced, mission-driven environments.
  • Ability to track and communicate Agile metrics and team performance.
  • Active Top-Secret clearance required with ability to obtain SCI Polygraph (U.S. Citizenship required; NO EXCEPTIONS)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in cloud-based, microservices, or DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale Agile transformations from Scrum to SAFe.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience working with distributed teams and hybrid environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams operating within a SAFe Agile Release Train (ART).
  • Facilitate team-level Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Support Program Increment (PI) Planning, including coordination of dependencies, risks, and team commitments.
  • Remove team impediments and escalate risks and issues as needed to ensure continuous delivery.
  • Partner with Product Owners to ensure well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog prioritization.
  • Drive adherence to Definition of Done, quality standards, and Agile best practices.
  • Support cross-team coordination through participation in Scrum of Scrums, ART Syncs, and System Demos.
  • Track and report Agile metrics including velocity, burndown, flow metrics, and PI objectives.
  • Coach teams on SAFe principles, Lean-Agile mindset, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Support dependency management and integration across multiple teams and systems.
  • Ensure alignment between team execution and broader program/portfolio priorities.
  • Contribute to SAFe transformation activities, including change management and process improvement initiatives.
