About The Position

The School Age Child Care (SACC) Site Lead plays a key role in overseeing the daily operation of a YMCA before and after-school site. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, enriching, and consistent environment for all participants while providing leadership and support to staff at the site. The Site Lead acts as the primary liaison between school staff, parents/guardians, SACC staff, and YMCA leadership. This role requires a proactive leader who embodies the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent; current college enrollment or coursework in education, recreation, child development, or related fields is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience as a camp counselor or in a similar youth leadership role.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience working collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a dynamic camp environment.
  • Ability to lead activities, games, and songs with enthusiasm and confidence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact effectively with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and actively participate in all aspects of camp programming.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Sexual Harassment, Mandated Reporter and Child Abuse Prevention training (or equivalent) must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, parents/guardians, and school partners at the assigned site.
  • Lead daily team meetings/briefings with staff to review schedules, child needs, and activity plans.
  • Ensure program schedules, activities, and transitions run smoothly and consistently.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, food bank records, and other required documentation.
  • Child Engagement & Program Delivery Actively lead and participate in curriculum driven daily activities that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Ensure activities are age-appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with YMCA mission and values.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment that encourages participation, respect, and cooperation among children.
  • Communication & Relationships Build positive relationships with children, families, and school staff to support program success.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for parent/guardian communication, addressing concerns and sharing program updates.
  • Communicate regularly with YMCA leadership regarding site operations, staff performance, and participant needs.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all YMCA, DCFS/DHS, and school district safety protocols, licensing requirements, and policies.
  • Monitor child-to-staff ratios and adjust as needed to remain in compliance.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, and behavioral challenges, documenting and reporting as required.
  • Staff Supervision & Support: Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to site staff, modeling positive behavior management strategies.
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of site staff.
  • Conduct staff observations, provide constructive feedback, and communicate performance concerns to leadership.
