About The Position

Rural Student Services (RSS) is a welcoming, collaborative advising unit with more than 50 years of history supporting Alaska Native and rural student success at UAF. RSS advisors work closely with students, campus partners, rural communities, and cultural programs to promote academic achievement and a strong sense of belonging. Requirements

• Experience working with Alaska Native, Indigenous, and rural communities or deep interest in learning.
• Knowledge of student development, academic advising best practices, and university systems.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
• Cultural humility, multicultural sensitivity, and the ability to build trust with diverse student populations.
• Skill in navigating complex situations using problem-solving, collaboration, and sound judgment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and the ability to learn advising systems (Banner, DegreeWorks, Nanook Navigator, etc.).
• Commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries, and student-centered support.
• The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree and one year of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
