About The Position

The Sport and Recreation Management program at James Madison University invites applications for a position in Sport and Recreation Management at the rank of Lecturer. The position is a Renewable Term Appointment starting in August of 2026. The Hart School is an affiliate academic unit in the College of Business. It is comprised of two undergraduate programs, Sport and Recreation Management and Hospitality Management and one graduate program, Sport and Recreation Leadership. The Sport and Recreation Management program serves over 700 undergraduate students, and the Sport and Recreation Leadership program serves more than 40 students at the master’s level. The mission of the Hart School is to engage in transformational education through innovative teaching, scholarship, and service.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in Sport or Recreation Management or a related field, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-year experience teaching Sport and Recreation Management at the collegiate level and/or professional experience working in the sport and/or recreation industry, preferred.
  • Additional consideration given to candidates with professional experience in college athletics or professional sports
  • candidates who have coordinated practicums and/or internships in the past.

Responsibilities

  • teaching undergraduate courses in Sport and Recreation Management
  • teaching undergraduate Sport and Recreation Management courses across the curriculum
  • teaching graduate classes if needed
  • instructional with an expected four/four teaching load during the regular academic year
  • engage in service responsibilities
  • some scholarship or professional qualifications
