About The Position

Scientific Drilling is looking for a skilled RSS MWD Technician to join our Houston Technology Center in Houston, Texas. As an RSS MWD Technician, your primary job function is to repair, maintain, assemble, test and deploy HALO RSS MWD tools run in the Scientific Drilling HALO RSS systems. The MWD Technicians are also responsible for helping to manage the inventory (consumables and instrument sub-assemblies) used to assemble and maintain these systems. Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging service company serving customers worldwide. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Disassemble, clean and inspect RSS MWD tool components Identify, log and replace worn, damaged or otherwise non-conforming tool components Assemble, test and trouble shoot RSS MWD tools Complete paperwork such as checklists, maintenance records and inventory sheets for HALO MWD systems Support new developments and tool testing Crimp, stake, screw, bolt, solder, epoxy, press fit and/or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment Must be able to complete and pass solder training course and have the ability to maintain certification Tests electronic equipment using a written procedure Uses multimeters, megohmmeter and other test equipment to measure continuity, resistance and to identify leakage in wiring insulation or circuitry Troubleshoot and test tool string failures to identify faulty component/components Required to write failure reports May be asked to write test procedures Responsible for the electronic equipment and tools in his or her work area Identifies common failures based on troubleshooting Manages workstation and practice good housekeeping techniques at all times Will be required to work overtime on as needed basis Will be required to work on weekends in a rotation with tactical teams to assemble/disassemble HALO tools when needed to support ongoing field operations Follows all safety policies and procedures and always wears proper PPE Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates understanding of complex mechanical and electronic MWD assemblies Working knowledge of Field Cap, CDM, Workshop Utilities, MWD Run, WinLog, and other pertinent necessary software to qualify components for re-use or to order return to ATC for refurb/rebuild is a plus but not required Working knowledge of Lithium battery safety, storage, assembly, de-passivation and disposal Demonstrates understanding of electronic concepts and can apply those concepts to identify failed components (voltage & no current is an open, vs current & no voltage is a short) Must be able to read and understand electronic schematics with limited guidance Ability to perform delicate and detailed assembly work while using hand tools and must possess steady manual dexterity Must be safety-oriented and environmentally minded Education, Experience, Certification and Training High School Diploma or equivalent Experienced in using mechanical tools and equipment Forklift and Overhead Crane certification will be required. and Training will be offered on site. Experienced in reading technical drawings and schematics Capable of identifying and solving problems involving faulty/NC MWD tool strings and components Able to communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally Basic knowledge in MS Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) Working knowledge of SAP to search inventory, and track historical deployment of individual MWD components Work Environment, Physical Job Requirements and PPE Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 45 lbs., perceive depth and operate a motor vehicle. Conditions may include working inside and/or outside. May work around machines with moving parts and moving objects. Working near radiant and electrical energy. Working closely with others or working alone. Working extended or irregular hours and travelling by all possible modes of transportation. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs. Requirements
