Aftermarket & Sustainment Engineering (ASE) is looking for Repair Design Engineers (RDE) to support Commercial Engine Overhaul and Repair of all rotating hardware with the exception of turbine airfoils. The RDE is responsible for the development of repairs for the GTF, PW4000, PW2000, F117, V2500, GP7000 engines. This position focuses on evaluating non-conforming hardware reported by our customers and shops, followed by authoring required technical data for repair execution. The selected candidate will design these repairs, establish milestone plans, and will be responsible for the coordination of external/internal approvals, including FAA regulatory approval, and repair source approval requirements if necessary. This position provides a great opportunity to have a tangible effect on P&W’s aftermarket business and impact on P&W’s airline customers. This position requires innovative and collaborative engineering skills along with onsite office and shop floor hands-on experience. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamental engineering analysis skills and understanding of manufacturing processes. Significant interaction with internal and external customers as well as other engineering disciplines is expected; excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The RDE will work closely with other ASE and OEM Design and Structures Leads, and other engineering disciplines to make the necessary technical decisions and repair design that meet the safety, quality, and customer needs. RDE’s are also expected to continuously identify and participate in process improvement and quality indicatives to support our team’s proficiency and productivity goals. Management and organization will also provide expert guidance and support of career growth, proficiency development, identifying future opportunities, and employee well-being. Research operating environments and functionality of rotor and turbine components, interactions with mating parts; develop strategies which will return nonconformance hardware back to service via development of repairs technical requirement. Establish repair concepts, design and FAA validation substantiation requirements for technical dialog or engineering authorizations relating to repairs. Authoring part level and assembly level component repairs and other technical data / procedures. Research and review source processes for alignment to published technical data. Analyze rotor operating trends and develop innovative repair strategies. Obtain internal technical approvals, FAA regulatory approval and coordination with the end user. Support investigations of engine field events requiring safety risk analysis, root cause and corrective actions as it relates to repair. Utilize modeling tools to understand critical rotor characteristics and generating figures and other repair requirements Continuously develop or improve repair development processes and Engineering Standard Work Participate in a multi-discipline organization to establish repair design requirements for new OEM Hardware. Provide routine status reports to customers and management through various channels. Interface with technical, project and program management to secure priorities and understand programmatic issues
