About The Position
The Walker Art Center empowers people to experience the transformative possibilities of the art and ideas of our time and to imagine the world in new ways. In our over 125-year history, we have become one of the most celebrated art museums in the country and we are known for our innovative presentations and acclaimed collections of contemporary art across the spectrum of the visual, performing, and media arts. The Rosemary Furtak Internship is for graduate students completing their Master’s in Information or similar degree. The Intern will provide support for the Walker Art Center Library and will work with books, journals, artists’ files, and pamphlet files with a goal of providing access to the materials through the collections management databases, library catalog, and website. The Intern will also attend Archives + Library Department meetings and participate in library programming.
Requirements
- Student currently enrolled in a master’s degree ALA accredited library or information sciences program
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of library systems such as KOHA
- Experience with MARC, RDA, OCLC
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
Nice To Haves
- Interest in contemporary art librarianship a plus
Responsibilities
- Provide cataloging in the library
- Provide support with the artists’ files, journals, and pamphlet files Identify
- basic preservation needs
- Assist researchers
- Assist with the planning, staffing, and statistics for library programming
