About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Room Service Operator who performs essential clerical and related duties under the supervision of the Assistant Food Service Director and staff dieticians. The role involves identifying with and committing to the organization's mission, participating in performance improvement, overseeing diet orders for patients of all ages, demonstrating age-related competencies, verifying diet orders, expanding personal knowledge, prioritizing duties, answering telephones, assisting co-workers, adapting to workload changes, ensuring patient food preferences are met, reviewing menus for compliance, providing menu suggestions, documenting nutrition information, attending required in-services, and assisting in training new staff. The individual must be able to perform duties satisfactorily, possessing basic knowledge of diet therapy, modified diets, food substitutions, and basic math skills, along with the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively in English. The role requires adaptability, good attendance, strong communication, cooperation, job knowledge, sound judgment, problem-solving skills, a commitment to quality, productivity, concentration, and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One to two years’ experience in food service.
  • Basic knowledge of diet therapy, modified diet and food substitutions, basic math skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers and other health care professionals.
  • Must be able to read and write English.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees diet orders for assigned group of patients of all ages.

  • Verifies diet orders; confers with the dietitian if necessary.

  • Patient selections are not to be given non-compliant foods without Registered Dietitian approval.
  • Provides suggestions to patients from the room service menu.
  • Complies with time guidelines.
  • Involves others in menu selections as appropriate.
  • Documents nutrition information on appropriate place/format including calorie counts, and supplements.
  • Attends required in-services; assist in training new or less skilled staff.
  • Uses good judgment and takes appropriate action with minimal supervision; recognizes important information; maintains optimal performance in stressful situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
