About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This full-time Room Service Assistant position involves performing a variety of duties related to food service for patients. The role includes serving meals and snacks to patients in a professional manner, ensuring the rotation and maintenance of floor supplies up to PAR (Periodic Automatic Replenishment) levels, and delivering appropriate room service menus while instructing patients on meal ordering systems and assessing their ability to utilize them. The assistant will communicate effectively and timely with nursing staff, nutrition techs, dietitians, and call center staff. Responsibilities also include using computerized diet sheets, accessing the patient computer system, retrieving completed meals from patients' rooms, and recording intake and calorie count information. The position requires maintaining compliance with all Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines and obtaining, transcribing, and processing meal orders from patients and visitors over the telephone, verifying that meal orders meet diet order parameters and providing appropriate menus for specific diets. Excellent customer service skills, listening skills, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and nursing staff are essential, as is evaluating and maintaining quality control standards.

Responsibilities
