About The Position

The room attendant is responsible for the cleaning of a quota of guest rooms each shift, including both occupied and departed rooms. The room attendant ensures that guest rooms are prepared to the established standard, maintains housekeeping cart supplied and organized, and participates in extra projects such as general cleaning, training new employees, etc, in the hotel rooms. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

• High school education is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience in a housekeeping environment is helpful.
• Ability to read, write and understand the English language in order to read tickets, recipes and communicate with other employees
• Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.
• Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift: Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. year. Frequently manipulate carts that weigh 200 lbs.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Must be able to perform all activities in a professional manner.
• Must be able to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
• Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
• Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
• Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
• Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.

• Room attendant is respectful and cooperative with team members.
• Room attendant is knowledgeable about safe use of chemicals and can accurately select appropriate chemicals and tools for each task.
• Room attendant recognizes all amenities and collateral materials that are part of guest room service and ensures that each guest room is properly equipped every day.
• Room attendant is familiar with service standards and is compliant in each guest room.
• Room attendant maintains service cart, equipment and supplies in an orderly fashion.
• Room attendant responds appropriately to changing business needs and guest requests.
• Room attendant reports maintenance problems and defects to supervision for correction.
• Other duties as assigned.
