About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising and supporting the Rocks and Ropes Specialists and the program areas they maintain. This includes ensuring programming is well-planned, delivered, and appropriate for the age and ability of the campers. In addition, this position will support the planning and facilitating of camp from pre-camp training through the duration of the camping session in coordination with the Assistant Camp Director, Programs.

  • Displays communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, parents, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Has a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. We are able to hire a small number of current high-school aged staff that are at least 17-years-old, but the majority of our staff must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manages time and stress levels, and proactively solve problems.
  • Ability to interact with campers of varying age levels.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions.
  • This position requires high ropes challenge course facilitation certification which will occur May 23-26, 2026 at Camp Namanu. Prior to June 2026, must be able to obtain a valid Lifeguard certification, Oregon Food Handler’s card, First Aid & CPR certification and completion of Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse online training. Will also be required to complete online training prior to arrival at camp.

Responsibilities

  • This role will come in contact with campers, families, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique.   • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation including supporting Namanu by assisting with duties outside of this role.

  • Assists with individual, cabin, unit, and all camp activities.
  • Schedule and lead regular observation time, check-ins, and team meetings with direct reports. Provide written and verbal feedback to direct reports and support them in their professional growth.
  • Support and coach program specialists on topics such as safety protocols, space set-up, lesson development, supply requests, scheduling, and lesson presentation.
  • Supervise, evaluate, observe, and provide support to program specialists including covering time-off and stepping in to lead programming as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Camp Director, Programs on program supply requisitions and ordering. Assist with the organization of program space and supplies for the program team, including coordinating end-of-summer inventory recording systems.
  • Assist Program Director with planning and facilitation of pre-camp set-up and training, daily staff meetings, weekly clean-up, end-of-summer shut down, and other support tasks as needed.
  • Supports Logistics team with Sunday check-in, Friday check-outs, and any all-camp program activities.
  • Assists with individual, cabin, unit, and all camp activities.
