About The Position

The Robotics Operations Specialist supports the deployment, operation, and advancement of robotic inspection systems used for infrastructure assessment, mapping, and engineering analysis. This includes unmanned aerial systems (UAS), confined-space robots, and autonomous platforms used to image critical assets such as dams, substations, pipelines, power generation facilities, and industrial structures. The role develops and implements operational procedures, executes geospatial data processing workflows, trains personnel on robotics platforms, and collaborates with engineering teams to integrate robotics into inspection and asset-management processes. Core responsibilities include mission planning, robotics system testing, data analysis, and supporting the development of new robotics workflows that improve safety, efficiency, and engineering outcomes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and operational familiarity with Robotics/Drone technologies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: software development, Sensors, Robotics (including Drones).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think quickly and make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge in Data Analytics and business impact analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering Degree preferred) , equivalent 2 years of experience or Military experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in robotics or computer systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering Degree preferred
  • Previous experience in a Utility industry or similar organization is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of NYPA's Robotics program and related projects, aligning it with organizational goals, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the design, development, and integration of robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software developers, to ensure the successful implementation of robotic solutions and understand project requirements.
  • Provide end-to-end support for robotic systems issues including troubleshooting, system improvements and user acceptance testing to ensure they meet performance and safety standards.
  • Accurately maintain documentation of development process, modifications, maintenance requirements, and other data.
  • Conduct advanced training sessions for field operations
  • Assist with enhancing and creating new Robotics Processes and procedures.
  • Assist in developing new use cases around NYPA using different robotics technologies.
  • Assist management with evaluating situational issues (airspace evaluations, flights over people, encroachments, weather) to advise Operators on continued flight operations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as documents for waiver requests to the FAA, to expand the complexity and geographic scope of UAS activities.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to the company's long-term technological strategy and inform senior leadership of options, and to help lay out a strategic approach for growing Robotics capabilities.
