The Dexterous AI Group is looking for a Robotic System Engineer Intern to help advance next-generation tactile sensing capabilities and integrate them into robotic manipulation systems. The intern will contribute to end-to-end research workflow spanning sensor prototyping and characterization, system integration, and data-centric experimentation to support dexterous manipulation.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (robotics focus), Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: sensor prototyping, test planning, and characterization instrumentation, electronics bring-up, and debugging (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc) physical modeling of sensors
  • Strong Python skills
  • Comfort working in collaborative R&D environment with high standards for documentation and reproducibility

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with microelectronics/sensor fabrication and characterization processes
  • Familiarity with analog/mixed-signal interfaces, signal conditioning, ADC/DAC considerations
  • Experience with PCB design/layout and/or embedded/firmware development
  • CAD experience (e.g., Onshape, Fusion 360) and basic mechanical integration
  • Exposure to robot learning / multimodal perception

Responsibilities

  • Advance tactile sensing R&D supporting dexterous robotic manipulations.
  • Execute sensor evaluation and characterization and propose improvements.
  • Build experimental workflows that connect sensors to robotics platforms for controlled data collection and analysis.
  • Integrate sensing hardware into robotic systems (interfaces, bring-up, debugging, validation) with attention to reliability and signal integrity.
  • Develop software tools in Python for data acquisition, calibration, analysis and visualization; contribute to reproducible experiment pipelines.
  • Survey and synthesize literature in tactile sensing, dexterous manipulation, and multimodal perception; communicate actionable takeaways to the team.
