About The Position

This position will support the development and delivery of project plans and contract documentation for roadway construction throughout the district. Develops and prepares roadway design plans and specifications using CADD software, ensuring compliance with design criteria and departmental policies. Performs engineering calculations, coordinates with support offices, and provides technical support throughout project development and construction.

Requirements

Knowledge of: Interpretation of roadway design standards, specifications, and criteria established or adopted by Florida Department of Transportation.

A high school diploma or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

Develops and prepares contract plans and specifications.
Utilizes computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software in plans preparation and development.
Ensures plans and specifications have been developed in accordance with appropriate design criteria, policy and procedures.
Assembles roadway design plans, signing and pavement marking plans, signalization plans, lighting plans, No Passing Zone Studies (NPZ), Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), typical section packages, scopes of work, design exceptions and variations, and utility conflict reports to be used in phase reviews and other submittals on designated projects.
Assists in performing complex engineering/ geometric calculations in the development of project design.
Develops alignment and grade including horizontal curves and vertical curves.
Determines bid items, associated quantities, and compiles quantity summaries.
Develops special designs as required for intersections, maintenance of traffic, profile grades and other roadway design components with minimal supervision.
Follows updated project schedules.
Assists in coordinating all related engineering functions by Department support offices.
Assists in providing independent technical support and design services for projects under construction.
Performs Quality Control reviews, permits reviews, and Local Agency Program (LAP) reviews, as required to ensure plans have been developed in accordance with appropriate Federal and Department design criteria, policy and procedures.
Assists in preparing and presenting design details and concepts at public meetings, local agency workshops and internal staff meetings.
Assists in responding to log letters and public records requests and communicates with public and other agency officials in writing and verbally.
Assists in field reviews and field evaluation, data collection, estimates reviews, and customer service request documentation.
Serves on Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for consultant design bid build, design/build projects, and alternative contracting.
