About The Position

Under general supervision of Public Works Superintendent, the Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily work assignments and supervising of assigned crew in areas related to maintenance on county roadways, easements, and culverts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution
  • Three (3) years' of road maintenance experience
  • Must posses a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement (Endorsement can be acquired within 180 days)
  • Must be proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided
  • Ability to document activities both written and electronic; utilize work order management system
  • Ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of management, staff, and public
  • Knowledgeable of leadership skills, principles, methods, practices, materials, equipment, traffic control and tools used in road & drainage maintenance operations
  • Knowledgeable of Harris County specifications and drawings

  • Three (3) years' of supervisory experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, schedules and oversees daily work assignments, performs all jobs in a safe and timely manner
  • Ensures that workers obey all safety & policy regulations
  • Documents all work activities, develop traffic control plan, work zone plan and utility locate request.
  • Investigates service requests, communicate with supervisor, document and determine a solution
  • Operates light and heavy construction equipment as needed, inspects equipment to verify that no hazardous conditions exist
  • Prepare and utilize road materials as needed, including: asphalt, gravel, limestone, concrete and crack sealer, etc.
  • Trains employees on use of all tools and equipment utilized
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned
