This position is for a Registered Nurse, Unit Coordinator whose responsibility is to coordinate the day-to-day patient care activities to patients receiving therapeutic and diagnostic services in Emergency Department. The position reports to the Director of Emergency Department. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE Completes an initial patient interview and admission assessment within timeframes specified by protocol. Formulates a patient problem list from collected information. Formulates a patient plan of care within timeframe specified by protocol. Re-evaluates patient and revises plan of care within timeframe specified by policy and procedure. Communicates changes as they are noted. Assists other nurses in the revision of the care plan. Involves the patient and family in planning care and determining achievable outcomes. Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to plan for patient discharge, beginning with the initial patient contact. Utilizes an interactive teaching-learning process for patient education. Documents all nursing actions accurately and as specified by protocol. Administers medications and solutions in a safe and timely manner. Uses scanner. Monitors the patient’s physiological status during local procedures, as specified by protocol. Directs and provides care for the critically ill patient. Takes appropriate actions to ensure continuity of care when arranging and participating in patient’s transfers. Coordinates shift activities and delegates duties to staff members in accordance with the individual’s educational and skill level. Acts as an intercessor in patient care activities between the unit and the other interdisciplines. Calculates required staffing ratios for the shift based on patient acuity, patient volume and predetermined standards. Implements appropriate nursing actions before transfer of the patient to the surgical environment. Assesses and maintains proper body alignment and tissue integrity during and after procedure in accordance with individual needs and as dictated by the procedure. Adheres to the principles of asepsis, identifies potential breaks in techniques and intervenes appropriately. Monitors and controls the environment during assigned cases. Assumes responsibilities for personnel, scheduling and patient flow across the areas of the department. Takes responsibility for department management duties as assigned, Takes weekday, weekend, and holiday call on a rotating basis.
