About The Position

Position Overview: The Telephone Triage Nurse provides nursing care through the assessment and prioritization of medical needs presenting as telephone calls from patients, families, providers and others. Works to ensure prompt response to patients with high-risk conditions. Delivers nursing care in accordance with established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in providing information and coordinating patient care. Works to promote service efficiencies and patient satisfaction. This remote position will be working full-time Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm, and Fridays 9:00am to 1:00pm. No weekends or holidays.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Successful completion of competency based orientation program.
  • CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a RN
  • 2 years of oncology experience.
  • ONS Chemotherapy / Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record functionality.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN
  • Oncology Certified Nurse Certification preferred when qualified to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently performs caller interview to obtain the information needed to evaluate condition and determined level of intervention.
  • Determines the appropriateness of an immediate versus delayed response based on the severity of the caller’s chief complaint.
  • Directs care in accordance with established policy/procedure.
  • Reviews patient records to obtain, record and communicate medical information needed to support decision making.
  • Consults with physicians and other clinicians as needed to effectively and efficiently address care needs.
  • Educates patient/family about symptoms, side effect management, medications, diagnostic procedures, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
  • Documents interactions completely and effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Navigates computer platform and electronic health record efficiently.
  • Strives to maintain knowledge and engagement with nursing department staying up on trends and initiatives.
  • Performs other nursing duties as assigned including participation in care delivery in the infusion area.
  • Communicates clearly and calmly.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
